FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What you need to know about your reflexology treatment...

HOW CAN REFLEXOLOGY HELP ME?

Most people find a reflexology session deeply relaxing and find it helps with stress relief, headaches and migraines, and regulating the body’s natural rhythms and levels. You might also notice yourself sleeping better and find that your mood and sense of wellbeing is improved. Some clients relax to the extent that they fall asleep during the treatment!

Although there have been some positive research projects carried out with reflexology, as yet, there is not a large enough body of evidence to make clinical claims of effectiveness, and a reflexologist should never claim to cure, diagnose or prescribe. Reflexology is a very individual treatment which is tailored to you as a whole person, taking into account both physical and non-physical factors that might be affecting your wellbeing.

HOW SHOULD I PREPARE FOR MY REFLEXOLOGY APPOINTMENT? WHAT DO I NEED TO BRING WITH ME?

  • Make a note of any medical conditions you’re currently diagnosed with, and/or details of any allergies

  • Bring a list of any medications you are currently taking

  • Wear loose/comfortable clothing (you will only need to remove your socks and shoes)

  • Maybe bring some water along with you - it’s important to stay hydrated after your treatment

  • Means of payment if you have not already paid, or your gift voucher if you have one

  • Your diary in case you’d like to make another appointment

WHAT HAPPENS WHEN I COME FOR MY TREATMENT?

On your first visit we will sit down and go through your lifestyle, health and medical history, and you will be asked to sign a consent form for treatment. All information taken is kept strictly confidential.

Depending on the type of treatment chosen your therapist will work on the feet, the upper back, shoulders & scalp, or the face.

You may relax so much as to fall asleep during your treatment. You might want to chat during your session. Either is fine and you should go with what you feel. You might experience different sensations, perhaps you may even feel areas of transient discomfort, but generally the experience should be deeply relaxing and you should expect to leave feeling recharged and refreshed.

WHAT MEDIUM/RANGE OF PRODUCTS DO YOU USE IN YOUR TREATMENTS?

I use a range of reflexology balms, creams and facial oils from Flying Wild which are handmade with certified organic ingredients. If the balms/creams are not suitable for your particular needs I also use vegan friendly/non-allergenic lotions, oils and powders as alternatives.

For Indian head massage I use Penny Price aromatherapy blend oils.

For Zone Face Lift treatments I use Ziggie Bergman’s award-winning signature ZFL Facial Elixir, Green People facial products (which are certified organic, cruelty-free, vegetarian, with a vast majority certified by The Vegan Society), along with selected Elemis, AT1, Clarins and Ren skincare products.

HOW MANY TREATMENTS WILL I NEED?

To address specific issues I recommend a course of treatments. A course is usually considered to be 6 treatments at least two-three weeks apart. For the purposes of general relaxation and wellbeing one-off treatments are very effective. Many clients find that they enjoy the routine of a monthly treatment.

Zone face lift is recommended to be taken as a course of twelve sessions 1-2 weeks apart, with monthly maintenance treatments taken thereafter.

HOW WILL I FEEL AFTER A REFLEXOLOGY TREATMENT?

Treatments can be tailored for relaxation, revitalisation and stress relief, so you may feel relaxed, or you may feel energised.

It is advisable to avoid alcohol and caffeine following your session. Hydrate well and eat a light meal. Reflexology can have a detoxifying effect, so it is possible to feel slightly headachy, lethargic, or nauseous afterwards although this is uncommon and passes quickly. Sometimes clients feel emotional or tearful, this can be part of the healing process.

Generally clients note a sense of well-being and relaxation and a lasting feeling of “zen”.
